As a result of the terrorist threats, police took action on Thursday by arresting 15 men in what is the largest anti-terrorism operation to have been conducted in Sydney and Brisbane.

According to reports, the jihadist supporters planned on filming beheadings and posting them on social media, showing victims' bodies covered with the Islamic State flag. The purpose of the acts were to nab random people and behead them, therefore making others think it is possible for them to be a victim and to foster terror amongst civilians.

Intelligence reports suggested that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) supporters planned a public execution, reports which were later confirmed by Prime Minister Tony Abbot.

Abbot noted that the plan was coming from an ISIS senior who is in talks with the Australian supporters.

This man was identified as 22-year-old Omarjan Azari. Azari is said to be in communication with ISIS networks regarding the random beheadings and specifically with the senior commander, Mohammed Baryalei.

Abbott added that the safety of the people is the number one priority of the Australian government which is why raids have been carried out. The officers participating in the raids were from the New South Wales Police, Australian Federal Police, Australian Crime Commission and the intelligence services.

Allegedly, Azaria and 14 others had been planning attacks for months while under police surveillance.

The 15 men were arrested mostly in Sydney but there were also two others from Brisbane who were arrested earlier.

31-year-old Omar Succarieh was charged with terrorism-related offences last week. He was also accused of conducting fundraising events for the extremist group in Syria called the Jabhat al-Nusra. Succarieh is reportedly the brother of Ahmed Succarieh, the first ever Australian suicide bomber in Syria.

Another was Agim Kruezi who also helped in obtaining funds. Kruezi was allegedly recruiting another person to join ISIS group in order to fight overseas.

Unfortunately, beheadings are a common form of threat used by ISIS militants. Recently, three journalists, two Americans and one British, were beheaded and video footage showing their gory executions were released on the internet.
