Google is busy developing its new devices, the Nexus 6 and Nexus 8. The two devices are manufactured by different companies but both are set to replace the Nexus 7.

The upcoming Nexus devices will have established hardware if speculations the next-gen device will be a repurposed 2014 Moto X are correct.

Early Moto X reviews said it's the best Android smartphone so far as regards its hardware and software. If this is the case, then its near-clone Nexus 6 also has the potential to compete with the iPhone 6.

The iPhone 6 was dubbed as the best 2014 smartphone even before it was released to the public. Beyond the specs, it's Google's operating system that will be the Nexus 6's killer feature. That software is the upcoming Android L.

MoDaCo co-founder Paul O'Brien tweeted the Nexus 9 will be launched on Oct. 16. On the other hand, Portuguese website 4GNews said Google will launch the latest HTC tablet on Oct. 8 because HTC has a press event for several products on that date.

It's likely that Google will unveil the new Nexus devices in October despite the absence of any official confirmation because the company released the Nexus 5 on Oct. 31 last year.

Notably, Google Play Store also doesn't have any Nexus 7 units in stock for all models and this suggests the company is getting ready to replace the device.

The Nexus 9 release is very likely especially since Nvidia confirmed the device will come in Q4 and will feature an Nvidia Tegra K1 processor.
