USA - Unconfirmed intelligence estimates cited that the subways of New York and Paris are now the primary targets of the extremist group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

This information was passed on by the Prime Minister of Iraq, Haider al-Abadi, himself to the government of the United States based on unverified reports received from the intelligence units in Baghdad.

Al-Abadi alerted the United States that ISIL will likely attack the busiest cities of America and France which are the New York and Paris, respectively. The subways of these areas were cited as possible targets.

Accordingly, ISIL recruits in America and France are the ones to stage the attack.

Meanwhile, US officials stressed that there are no verified reports of ISIL attacks in US although they are taking the information with "utmost precaution."

Brett MacGurk, US Deputy Assistant Secretary for Iraq and Iran, also said that there is no imminent threat to the United States. "Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi was only discussing the issue on general terms," he added.

The United States National Security Council stated that such issue was not discussed during a recent meeting with Iraqi officials.

Although unconfirmed, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo took the information seriously and with precaution. He stated that "they have coordinated with the government and Washington to strengthen security measures in the area."

The government of France also expressed that it has not monitored related information in their area.

Nonetheless, both nations considered the threat seriously.

Also, the American government is monitoring the recruitment of ISIL in the United States. It is closely coordinating with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other intelligence partner agencies about this matter.

The United States of America is spearheading the airstrikes against the Islamic State in Syria (ISIS) and the ISIL in northern Iraq.
