According to reports, Mirkan positioned herself in the east border of the town before carrying out the mission killing 10 jihadists.

Currently, the group has recruited more than 10,000 female fighters, who have played vital support in combating IS rebels. Twitter updates related to the incident also claim that Mirkan is a mother of two, though such details are not yet confirmed.

The People's Defence Unit issued a press release describing Mirkan and 15 other mercenaries whom it regarded as heroes. The unit commended Arin for her determination and strong will, which it said will serve as an inspiration for all its combatants.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman said that it was the first incident of a female Kurdish soldier subjecting herself in a suicide mission, a tactic that is widely used by the ISIS.

Over the past several weeks, ISIS has drawn closer to Kobane also known as Ain al-Arab displacing more than 186,000 people towards the Turkish border. Idris Nahsen, a local Kobane official, said that though U.S. airstrikes were able to slow down militant operations, it was not enough to completely stop them.
