Family of Dallas Ebola Patient Deemed His Condition ‘Disturbing’ as They Refuse to See Him a Second Time

The family members of the man from Dallas diagnosed with Ebola do not wish to see him again even through a video footage, claiming that his condition is "too disturbing" to look at.

"What we saw was very painful. It didn't look good," Thomas Eric Duncan's nephew, Josephus Weeks, stated after he and several other relatives had a glimpse of the Ebola patient via a camera system at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital on Monday.

After that visit, however, they had refused to view him again as seeing him in pain was too much for them to bear.

According to his nephew, Duncan's mother was unable to sleep for several days after seeing her 42-year-old son's condition.

A hospital spokesperson described the first Ebola patient on American soil to be in critical but stable condition, citing that he had been sedated for several days.

Duncan, who is currently under the aid of a breathing machine, has undergone kidney dialysis as the functioning of his liver had declined over the past few weeks.

After going through dialysis, doctors said that Duncan's liver has improved though they believe it would not stay that way for long.

According to his kin, Duncan did not receive the same treatment as that of which an American citizen would have, suggesting that it is because he is not American.

"We feel he didn't get the medicine and treatment for the disease because he's African and they don't consider him as important as the other three," Weeks stated during a press conference on Tuesday.

This allegation prompted Duncan's family sought the help of Rev. Jesse Jackson, who became their spokesperson.

Jackson believes that money played a key role in how Duncan was being treated, citing that those who do not have insurance do not experience the same treatment as those who do.

Duncan was raised in Liberia and had flown to Dallas in September to attend his son's high school graduation.
