The remains, which were mostly scorched from an apparent attempt at disposal, were found in what seemed to be a mass grave 200 kilometers outside the city of Iguala, a few days after dozens of aspiring teachers in Guerrero disappeared on September 26.

"We have some (DNA) results for the first pits and I can tell you that they do not correspond to the DNA that relatives of these young men have given us," Attorney General Jesus Murillo Karam declared on Tuesday.

During the same press conference with local and international media, Karam also announced that 14 more police officers in the locality were arrested for allegedly collaborating with drug syndicates in abducting the students.

Reports revealed that two hitmen who confessed to killing 17 of the students though investigators have yet to confirm the information as they await the remaining DNA results.

During investigations, some 300 federal police have scoured the state of Guerrero for any sign of the missing students whose case is being treated as kidnapping.

Reports revealed that several local police officers were deemed to have conspired with the Guerreros Unidos gang during the attack on September 26 that led to the death of six people and the disappearance of over 40 more.

After the incident, 26 Iguala police officers were arrested.

On Tuesday, the students' parents, who still cling to the hope of finding their children alive, joined together in a candle-light vigil at a church in Chilpancingo, the capital of Guerrero.
