Destiny Triples PlayStation 4 Sales in U.S.

PlayStation 4 sales have tripled with the launch of Destiny in the United States, showing impressive sales on both consoles.

Video game Destiny is undoubtedly the biggest release of 2014, stepping over Watch_Dogs and Titanfall, the two other big console releases this year. It is the biggest IP released by both Activision and Bungie, and looks to be a new franchise and trendsetter.

Even with the rather average reviews, mostly 6/10, most reviewers have said the experience is not one they can put down easily - spending hours raiding, collecting and wandering the large open space.

The launch seems to have been more favored on the PS4, possibly due to the advertising and launch bundle. This has given Sony triple the normal sales per month, ever since Destiny arrived on the next generation console.

Destiny sales were expected to be high on previous generation consoles, but for it to be a seller of PS4 is surprising. Especially with the amount of criticism leveled at the shared-world MMO, accusing Bungie of purposely hiding a multitude of content and bad multi-player design.

Bungie has been able to fit a good few hours content into the first chapter of Destiny, allowing players to start to understand the factions, without actually getting any further references to the world or why the factions like/hate one another.

This sort of tempered story is a bit lax for anyone wanting to enjoy a full game, but interesting enough to keep players on for the DLC. Bungie plans to make Destiny a ten year franchise, a deal inked with Activision, meaning we can expect plenty of DLC and expansions in the next few years.
