A group of Kurdish Peshmerga fighters leaves Iraq for Turkey Tuesday, where they will cross the border into Syria and help fight Islamic State militants who are trying to overrun the town of Kobani.

Seventy-two Peshmerga fighters have left their base in Iraqi Kurdistan and will travel by air, while another 85 fighters will travel by land in order to take part in the fight in the embattled Syrian town.

The group's weapons will be sent by land, according to a Kurdish official.

According to AFP, dozens of army trucks were seen leaving a military base in Irbil, where the Peshmerga fighters would depart from.

Additionally, troops were seen loading some heavy artillery into military trucks and were packing their bags for their travel.

A Kurdish officer said that there were about 40 trucks carrying mortars and machine guns which will head to the province of Duhok and cross the Turkish border on Tuesday.

Halgord Hekmat, a Kurdish ministry spokesman, said that the Peshmerga fighters will serve as "support troops" armed with rocket launchers as well as mortars and automatic guns.

Additionally,  Peshmerga minister Mustafa Qader said that there is no timetable for the forces to remain in Kobani, adding that the troops "will remain deployed until they are no longer needed."

Following a continuous refusal to allow the passage of Kurds across its border, Turkey finally agreed to the troops' deployment last week.

Turkey's move came two days after negotiations with the Kurdish troops who will have to pass through the Turkish territory to reach the Syrian town.

According to Hekmat, the negotiations tackled the route by which the Peshmerga troops and the weapon-filled trucks will pass through Turkey to reach Kobani.

Meanwhile, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has denied allegations that he wasn't doing enough to help in combatting the jihadists.

The Turkish leader vowed that they will help the U.S.-led coalition forces in defeating ISIS and in reclaiming Kobani and other neighboring areas.
