(Photo : Microsoft) Microsoft has announced its fitness wearable is coming to the UK.

Microsoft has finally unveiled its smartwatch, but the device looks to be all about health and fitness, rather than productivity or notifications, the two areas in which Android Wear and Apple Watch are ready to compete.

Called Microsoft Band, it will cost $199 and comes in small, medium or large sizes. It looks similar to the FitBit Charge - it has a small rectangular LED for notifications, stats and other information, and a circular design that will fit around the user's wrist.

Compared to the Moto 360 or Apple Watch, Microsoft Band is a lot different. It does not offer the watch-style interface, allowing the user to quickly glance at information and act on it, although Microsoft has implemented some productivity features.

First, Microsoft Health is a new product from Redmond and centers around giving the most information possible. It will track daily or weekly numbers in calories; calories burned steps, running, cycling, sleep time, heart-rate and other health features.

Microsoft Band will also be capable of showing email and calendar alerts. Cortana, the virtual assistant for WIndows Phone, is built into Microsoft Band, allowing users to send voice commands and also find out information about the weather, football game, and more.

An NFC service has been added, allowing users to pay for things via the Microsoft Band. Starbucks, Gold's Gym and others have partnered with Microsoft.

One of the smartest things Microsoft has done in preparation for launch is port the Microsoft Health app onto Android, iOS and Windows Phone. This makes Microsoft Band available for everyone, regardless of their phone OS.
