The United Nations has reiterated Sunday climate change issues during the Intergovernmental Panel Climate Change (IPCC) report and urged leaders to act soon to prevent further irreparable environmental damages.

Climate change has been a growing worldwide concern and the UN has led a campaign to avert the negative impact of the phenomenon to different ecosystems and human population.

The UN said its goal was to limit the rise in temperatures before this century ends. The limit is 2 degrees Celsius and it requires a substantial cut in the use of greenhouse gases.

According to the report, if greenhouse gases usage will continue to be reduced, the emissions will be lowered to 70 percent by 2050 and almost zero percent by 2100.

The UN also pointed out the warming of the atmosphere, the rising sea levels and the reduction of the ice caps at both South and North poles are evidence that climate change poses a great threat to humanity.

They added that for the past three decades, the temperature has risen as they noted that between 1880 and 2012, the temperature has increased to 0.85 degrees. As for the sea level, they have noted that it has already increased by 19 centimeters or 7.5 inches from 1901 to 2010.

The UN then warned if there won't be actions taken regarding this concern, the sea level may rise from 26 to 82 centimeters by 2100. They pressed that the damages will continue even if the greenhouse gases were completely halted but the severity can be decreased.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon then called out on the leader to act as soon as possible because time is not on our side.
