(Photo : Reuters) Known almost as much for singing about her exes as she is for her talent, singer Taylor Swift answered her critics, calling them sexist.

Taylor Swift's "Secret Sessions" is a way for the singer to connect with her fans, according to the Los Angeles Times.

About three dozen of Swift's fans from across the greater Los Angeles area including Bakersfield, San Diego and Long Beach were able to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of seeing Taylor perform her latest album live, and in the privacy of the 24-year-old's own two-storey mansion.

The fans were handpicked by the pop singer, after they caught her eye on Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr and other social media sites.

They were reportedly enticed to come to the "Secret Sessions" via vague invitations of becoming a part of "an amazing opportunity," wherein they were shuttled in luxury vans above Beverly Hills on a Saturday afternoon. They were served pizza and other scrumptious snacks before being told to move to a spacious living room.

Moments after Taylor's fans settled into their own spots in the well-appointed area, Swift's fans got the biggest shock of their lives, when the pop star appeared in front of them holding her fluffy white pet cat, clutched to her chest.

"Hey, guys," said Taylor, as the fans screamed in glee. Afterwards, Taylor explained to her adoring audience how she selected them from social media platforms.

"You guys have been individually hand-picked - by mostly me," she said. "I'm obsessed with Twitter and Instagram and Tumblr. Why I wanted to have you here at this secret session is to play the entire new album for you," said the 24-year-old.

"She's describing my life right now .... I've been a fan since I was 14. She's never disappointed me," said 21-year-old Cal State Bakersfield student Marisel Maldonado, halfway through the "Secret Sessions."

According to the LA Times, this event was only to be the first of many more of Taylor's "secret sessions" to come.

One reason for these personal fan listening sessions is not only to delight her fans, but also a way for the singer to ensure her audience stay with her, as she crossed- over from country to pop.

Connecting to fans isn't new for the former country singer. Even at the start of her career in the mid-2000s, Swift already took care of her MySpace page and other personal accounts she has, to connect with her fans. The  crossed- over pop star is also aware of the business side of her career. She already appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," ABC's "Good Morning America" and NBC's "The Voice."

She also reportedly shows up on "The View," and omnipresent on the radio with more than 900 iHeartRadio-affiliate pop stations featuring her new album.

Swift's recent album called "1989" has been described by Swift herself as her first, "official pop album." The bulk of her songs were created in collaboration with pop-R&B producer songwriters, Max Martin and Shellback, Ryan Tedder and singer-songwriter, Jack Antonoff of Fun.

As for her "Secret Sessions," Swift told her fans she, "really wanted to do something different for this album. We've got so much big, crazy stuff planned, I wanted to balance that by also doing something with more of a human connection."

"It's really, really fun. It feels like a party, or a sleepover or something."
