(Photo : Microsoft) Microsoft is set to announce their first Lumia device without the Nokia branding next week, bringing an end to Nokia as a smartphone manufacturer.

Microsoft has officially ended the Nokia mobile brand and will announce the first Lumia-only device next week, which will have no marks of Nokia branding.

Still, the new Lumia device is expected to look similar to previous devices built by Nokia. The new device, according to a leaked report via Neowin, showing the Lumia 1090 RM - the successor to the Lumia 1020.

Among a few noticeable changes to the Lumia 1020, Microsoft has removed the overly large camera sensor. Despite the number-name, the Lumia 1090 will be a mid-range device at best, with a 720p screen, dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM.

Windows Phone can run on almost any device and takes a lot less system resources than Android or even iOS, but still, this is rather poor for the opening device. The back of the device has the "Microsoft" logo, alongside the same logo on the top of the device.

The specs indicate that Microsoft will launch the Lumia 1090 in developing markets only, where it has had the most success. Microsoft will continue to use the Nokia brand in these markets for the low-end devices, due to the established brand identity.

Microsoft is moving its core focus away from products and into cloud and services - making some wonder why Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella authorized the acquisition of Nokia's Mobile Division for $7.2 billion in the first place, especially since they removed most of the workforce a year after.

Add this onto the fact Microsoft is basically removing the high-end Lumia devices, which Nokia focused on for most of 2012 and 2013, it makes the acquisition look a lot more like an end bargain, when Nokia refused to work with only Windows Phone.

What's more, the remaining parts of Nokia left in Finland have reported excellent profits, alongside new pools of revenue from communications. In 2016, the new Nokia is planning to make another stab at the mobile market, but this time, they're going with Android.
