iQiyi, China's online video platform with more than 50 million daily viewers, has officially announced that it will soon make a total of 1,000 U.S. movie titles available to its mainland China users.

iQiyi, which was founded by China's largest online search engine Baidu, aims to meet the huge demand for popular Hollywood movies in China and has gained distribution rights for as many as 1,000 new U.S. film titles to be implemented in its service sometime in 2015.

"American movies are hugely popular in China," iQiyi CEO Gong Yu said. "This summer U.S. films overtook Chinese and other international titles to become the most popular titles for paying viewers on iQIYI's platform."

In addition to meeting consumer demands, Baidu is also looking to expand its international partnerships in an effort to differentiate itself from big tech competitors including Alibaba and Tencent.

Gong Yu put together a team and is reportedly already in Los Angeles at the American Film Market searching for potential titles to add to iQiyi's video platform.

iQiyi not only offers a movie streaming service, but the company also makes it's own movies and has revealed plans to make eight films including one Hollywood-style film next year.

Additionally, the company hopes Hollywood movie studios could shorten the time span between movie releases in the U.S. and online releases in China. This would help iQiyi and the demand for its consumers, but would also benefit movie studios, as issues with pirating movies would decrease if movies would become readily available in China earlier.

"As iQiyi charges five yuan ($0.82) for Chinese audiences to watch new releases online, the same cost for a pirated DVD, if American movies can appear online in a timely manner, then Chinese users would prefer a good quality online version to a pirated DVD," said senior vice president Yang Xianghua.
