The meteorological authority in China has issued a blue alert on Tuesday with regards to heavy rain about to hit some locations in the southern region in the country.

The blue alert level was the lowest in the four-level warning system in the country.

Lin Jian, the head of the Sichuan Armed Forces, said at that time of the worst rain in China’s history that the powerful flood even swallowed bridges and roads. It also made rescue operations even more difficult.

Heavy rain was predicted to hit some areas of Hunan, Jiangxi, Hubei, Anhui, Guizhou and Zhejiang provinces starting from 2 PM Tuesday and in the next 24 hours. The meteorological authority also said that areas in the Tibet autonomous region and the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region would be affected.

The advisory was issued by the National Meteorological Center (NMC). The advisory went on saying that torrential rain of 100 to 130 millimeters will also occur in the northeastern parts of Jiangxi.

The NMC also said that local government agencies should prepare for emergencies against coming storms. They should also prepare for power outage in dangerous areas and prevent potential disasters that may occur from heavy rain, including landslides and mountain floods.

The four level color coded weather warning system in China is represented by red, to be the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
Last year, 17 people in Zhongxing in Sichaun were buried in a landslide. Authorities also said that there were 11 families buried during the incident and has affected more than 200 residents in the area.

The same incident from 2013 has destroyed 300 homes in Sichuan and around 36,800 people were relocated from Yunnan, said a report from Xinhua.
