Microsoft Band a Hit at $199

A new wearable Microsoft Band 2 is a fitness tracker to be released on Oct. 6.

The Microsoft Band sold out on the Microsoft Store website after its surprise launch a few weeks ago. Microsoft confirmed it produced over 5,000 units of the wearable health device contrary to claims in a previous report but didn't exactly specify how many were sold.

Microsoft said its excited by consumer response to the Microsoft Band. Although the company won't provide details on its production volumes, it did admit to selling more than the suggested numbers.

Microsoft is working to deliver the devices to customers as fast as possible and shipments are expected to arrive at Microsoft Stores all throughout the holiday season. Microsoft also encouraged people to visit a local Microsoft Store to order and pick up the Band as soon as it arrives.

Customers may also buy from the Microsoft online store and receive updates every time the device is available online.

Microsoft said it's making more Bands for potential customers across the United States. The Microsoft Band has a price tag of $199.99.

It's a health and fitness tracker with a couple of smartwatch functionalities, as well. The Band comes with a UV sensor, heart rate monitor, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS and Microsoft's digital personal assistant Cortana when paired with a smartphone running Windows Phone.

The device can keep track of calorie burn, sleep quality and steps. It supports Guided Workouts and can be used to preview emails, take notes, set reminders and get calendar alerts. The Microsoft Band comes with two 100 mAh batteries.
