Sesame Street's Elmo, NASA Encourages Kids to Explore Space

Beginning November 25, 2014, the Muppets will start their 10-day countdown towards the mission. Anyone especially kids can visit the site online where the video countdown will provide valuable information presented by colorful graphics and the Muppets themselves about space exploration and the Orion spacecraft.

Sesame Street's collaboration with NASA already spread like wildfire on social media such as Twitter. Tweets like "9 days to go before NASA's Orion launch" are seen on NASA's Twitter page that includes Elmo holding a ticket. Elmo is apparently no stranger to rocket launches, he was present in the last and final Space Shuttle mission at the Kennedy Space Center in 2011.

The real manned Mars expedition will happen sometime in 2030 where today's young generation will be the precursors in this milestone of Martian space exploration. Orion's primary mission is to test the current spacecraft systems and technology that will hopefully allow manned deep space missions. The unmanned Orion capsule will orbit Earth twice after a five-hour expedition in space.
