Microsoft Planning January Event For Windows 10

After a small reveal in San Francisco, Microsoft is planning a second event to detail the consumer edition of Windows 10.

Microsoft is gearing up for a second Windows 10 event in late January, following the reveal last month at a small room in San Francisco.

The event will be much bigger than the previous one, going over the consumer edition of Windows 10 and how it will fit into the phone, tablet and TV.

It will also go over the various changes and new features coming to Windows 10, including the redesigned start menu and Continuum, the new touch interface.

Microsoft has been able to take lots of raw data from the developer preview of Windows 10, where Windows enthusiasts and developers have been able to report bugs, use new features and make Microsoft's patching efforts easier.

Windows 10 is expected to be the first OS to work on phone, tablet, PC and TV. Microsoft wants scaling from the smallest display to the largest. This has been part of the company's initiative since Windows 8, where Microsoft updated all interfaces to be similar.

The new OS will remove the previous Windows Phone 8 OS on smartphones, although it is unclear if any current Windows Phones will be able to run the new OS.

Microsoft is keeping quiet in regards to price point, although rumor says it will come free to Windows 8 owners and maybe to all users, similar to Apple's Mavericks/Yosemite OS.

The software giant has been taking a few risks recently, including free OneDrive storage for Office 365 users and a $199 per year bundle of most digital services.

Windows has been a core seller for Microsoft however and the company might look to only make the consumer edition free. Enterprise owners will still have to pay for the OS and support.

Microsoft's event comes right after the Consumer Electronics Show, one of the largest gadgets events this year. Most companies show off products ranging from phones, to tablets, to dishwashers.

Microsoft had a small presence at last year's CES, but did not reveal anything at the event.
