A young Nigerian teenage girl came to the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday to share with leaders of the House of Foreign Affairs Committee her experience in the hands of the notorious Boko Haram.

15-year-old Deborah Peter came forward to share her story in hopes of revealing to the world the horrors perpetuated by the extremist sect responsible for kidnapping 300 Nigerian schoolgirls last month.

When Deborah was 12, gunmen from the Boko Haram burst into her home and shot and killed her father, a Christian pastor, and her 14-year-old brother. The militants then forced Deborah to lie with the corpses.

Deborah sat before the Committee led by Chairman Ed Royce, a California Republican, and shared her harrowing story.

"I decided to tell the world my story when the Chibok girls were taken because everyone needs to know how horrible Boko Haram is. They kill innocent people who never hurt them," Deborah said. She urged the US government to send more aid to assist Nigeria in recovering the 300 kidnap victims.

The US has just deployed 80 military personnel to Chad to help locate the nearly 300 girls being held by the Boko Haram.

Deborah and her family lived in the same town where the Nigerian schoolgirls were taken from. The town is called Chibok which is roughly interpreted as "Western education is forbidden". The title fits in with Boko Haram's manifesto in which they referred to Western education as 'evil' .

Deborah Peter now resides in the US and attends school in Virginia. Sharing her story to the world has made her the face and voice of all the unnamed victims of the Boko Haram.
