(Photo : Amazon) Amazon has launched a local restaurant collection and delivery service in its home town of Seattle and may be looking to expand soon.

Amazon is looking to get into local food collection and delivery, after launching AmazonFresh, a service that delivers food to customer's homes.

The new service works under the Amazon Local umbrella, it will allow users to order food for collection or delivery in a local area. Amazon is currently beta testing the service in its hometown Seattle.

Amazon has tapped over 100 restaurant chains to offer collection, although it is unclear if all of these companies will offer delivery. From how Amazon is promoting this service, it seems to be less about traditional fast-food and more meals from the menu.

Like most Amazon related services, users will be able to pay through their own Amazon account. It works in the same way as most fast-food services online when ordering.

Amazon has always been a favorite for merchants, being able to post their own products onto an e-commerce store that reaches hundreds of millions of customers everyday. Entering the takeaway market might be interesting for companies, considering the reach.

That said, the takeaways will not be featured on the main site. It is also unclear how much of a cut Amazon will take from every order, whether it will be done through extra delivery/collection or a slight increase in prices.

Amazon is starting to branch out its service from typical e commerce. AmazonFresh is trying to revive the 90s online food supplies and Amazon is even looking into its own collection warehouses for customers who do not want to wait for delivery.
