The National Football League (NFL) is currently investigating Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo's, injury report. He said that he has been playing with a rib injury for nearly two months but is not indicated on the Cowboys' injury report.

The league spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed this news to ESPN.

After the Cowboys won over the Chicago Bears last Thursday (41-28), Romo said that he had been playing with a broken rib.

However, multiple sources are now saying that he misspoke and that he had torn rib cartilage instead of a break.

When asked when he sustained the injury, Romo was unable to recall the exact game from when it happened.

One source though said that it came from a big hit he had from Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner last October 12. Romo kept playing the whole game.

According to the NFL's injury report policy, "All players with significant or noteworthy injuries must be listed on the report, even if the player takes all the reps in practice, and even if the team is certain that he will play in the upcoming game."

A team can be subjected to a fine if the league finds that they did not comply with its injury report rules.

In 2009, the New York Jets were in a similar predicament and fined for US $125,000 for not putting Brett Favre on the injury report after revealing he played the final month of the 2008 season with a torn biceps tendon.

In a 2008 game against the Philadelphia eagles, Romo had already suffered the same kind of injury. In 2011, he played through a broken rib and punctured lung suffered in a bout against the San Francisco 49ers.

He currently wears extra protection for his ribs and has a longer-than-normal plate to protect his surgically repaired back.
