It has been a while since Microsoft unveiled a true flagship for Windows Phone, launching mid-range devices like the Lumia 925 and 920, instead of big upgrades to the Lumia 1020 and 1520.

This year Windows Phone fans may get their high-end flagship, but it will not coming anytime soon. According to a new report, Microsoft is planning to launch the Lumia McLaren in the second half of 2015.

The Lumia McLaren has been constantly questioned with rumors saying it has been dropped by Microsoft and others showing the near complete unit.

Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella did push for more low-end options on Windows Phone, where the OS currently flourishes, but a high-end option is not completely out of the picture.

Mobile World Congress, the first mobile centric conference in 2015, will include Microsoft. The company will apparently launch a few low-end Lumias, one new 600 Series, and potentially a small upgrade to the Lumia 920.

However, there will be no big flagship announcement at the event. Microsoft is holding that off until the second half of 2015, around the same time Windows 10 should launch.

Microsoft has revealed Windows 10 will become the OS for all Windows products, including Phone and RT. Upgrading from Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 may be impossible, meaning Microsoft wants to launch McLaren on Windows 10 to increase the longevity.

Windows 10 should offer various upgrades to Cortana and a one-for-all apps store, allowing Windows users to purchase apps then use the apps on a smartphone.

It is still unclear how Microsoft will use one OS for the whole of the Windows ecosystem; the company is holding an event in Redmond, Washington to further explain the consumer side of Windows 10 on January 21.
