WATCH: Amazing NASA Video of Orion's Re-entry

Orion's re-entry

(Photo : NASA) New video recorded during NASA’s Orion return through Earth’s atmosphere.

NASA captured on  video  Orion's entire Dec. 5 maiden space voyage into space.

When Orion splashed down safely back into the Pacific, NASA retrieved data from the flight that recorded Orion's journey from launch to re-entry from space through the capsule's window.

Some of the footage was shown in real time via NASA TV. The whole video is not entirely available, however. During the capsule's descent, a blackout caused by superheated plasma surrounding the vehicle when it experienced intense high temperatures that prevented video download and streaming.

Fortunately, the camera captured the stunning view. The public can see Orion's voyage from an astronaut's perspective and how a spacecraft endures extreme space environment as it travels between Earth and its lower orbit.

The video starts rolling ten minutes before the Orion's 11:29 a.m. splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. In about two minutes from re-entry, peak temperatures slowly rose inside from the friction outside the capsule, rubbing against the heat shield.

Orion emerged safely as the camera continues to record the parachute deployment tha slowed down the capsule after re-entry to 20 miles per hour to a final splash in the ocean. NASA, the U.S. Navy and the Lockheed Martin team retrieved the Orion capsule and brought it back to shore on board the Navy's, USS Anchorage. Orion was then transported to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Orion endured a 4.5 hour flight test in space some 3,600 miles above. The capsule also went through scorching temperatures of 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit and travelled at 20,000 miles per hour.
