The Nigerian militant group called the Boko Haram shows no signs of letting up and in a new wave of violence has kidnapped 20 more girls from a nomadic settlement in north-east Nigeria near the town of Chibok, the same region from where 300 schoolgirls were kidnapped in April, reports state.

According to eyewitnesses, the village of Garkin Fulani was preparing for its weekly market on Monday morning when militants pulled up in a tractor trailer and began pulling girls inside the vehicle.

Officials say that the militant sect often attack villages on days when traveling markets are held. The Boko Haram can then stock up on provisions and take hostages to be used for ransom later.

Villagers stated that on Monday the extremist group loaded up the truck with rice and noodles alongside the abductees.

The incident highlights once more how vulnerable the area is despite President Goodluck Jonathan's promises to protect residents and wage war against the Boko Haram.

Reportedly, a vigilante group has formed in the region to make up for lack of military and government intervention on the people's behalf.

The group is left to go up against the highly armed Boko Haram with only hunting rifles they've fashioned from car parts and scraps of woods, reports state.

This isn't the first kidnapping the extremist group has carried out. The Boko Haram has waged a war of terror over the past five years, detonating bombs, carrying at massacres of entire villages, and kidnapping hundreds of young women.

The group has stayed in the international headlines since kidnapping nearly 300 girls in April. Although some of the young girls managed to escape, most of them remain missing, despite the US, UK, and China all offering aid to the struggling nation.

Only last week, the Boko Haram carried out a raid in north-east Nigeria, killing hundreds of innocent villagers.
