"These events do not appear to be gang-related but rather tragic incidents of domestic violence," Knecht said at a news conference.

Officials were called in southwest Edmonton on Monday at 6:50 in the evening to investigate a complaint related to weapons. Police then found a middle aged-woman's body at the said vicinity.

A male perpetrator eallegedly entered a private residence then discharged his firearm before the scene. Two hours after, police officials checked on the north end of the city.

Family members said that the man was very depressed and they feared he might have suicidal tendencies. Police arrived at the area but the man did not respond, so they left.

However, police had to go back to the area minutes after midnight when they received another call. When they entered the home, they discovered seven bodies including three women, two men and two children. The information they received was not made public.

Two hours after, the officials saw a black SUV in Saskatchewan matching the description of the vehicle that was reportedly linked to the first killing. There is no other suspect than the man who committed suicide, says Knecht.

According to the neighbors, the family that lived in the house where the bodies were discovered was believed to be Vietnamese.
