Apple More Storage Efficient Than Competitors

iPhones

(Photo : Reuters) Apple is looking to fix some of the underlining performance issues on iOS 9.

Apple has been under a lot of scrutiny over the past week for its 16GB storage option, after two Miami residents filed a formal complaint in California on the company's misrepresentation of storage.

However, an investigation by U.K.-based Which? into storage available after update shows thnat the Apple's smartphones are some of the most efficient, and this is before the iOS 8 update.

The iPhone 5C had 12.6GB available storage in 2013 and the iPhone 5S had 12.2GB available, both beating other Android devices, and the iPhone 6 keeps even more storage at 12.3 to 13.1GB after the iOS 8 update.

Compare this to other popular devices at the time, and it is clear Apple manages storage much more efficiently than Android providers. Sony's Xperia Z1 manages to keep 11.4GB available, the LG G2 only keeps 10.3GB and Samsung's Galaxy S4 only has 8.4GB.

Google's Nexus device is the best Android performer with 12.2GB available after the OS download, but even then it is just on level with Apple's iOS 8 update size.

The Android skins ported onto smartphones by manufacturers take up a good chunk more storage than Apple, but even BlackBerry Z30 only manages to hold 11.2GB after the software update.

Even though Apple is very careful with storage constraints, the amount of apps put onto the iPhone does remind us of the "Hi, I'm a Mac" advert, where the bloated PC comes into the room claiming manufacturers put tons of bloatware inside before selling the device.

Apple now ports over two dozen apps onto iOS 8 devices, and users cannot delete these applications. Perhaps if Apple allowed users to delete some of the apps they never use from iOS, it would free up a lot more space.
