Restaurant in China Offers Free Food for the Beautiful

It pays to be attractive for diners of a Korean restaurant in Zhengzhou city in central China.

The eatery Jeju Island promises the 50 most beautiful diners to come through its doors everyday that they will not have to pay for their meals.

To determine if a diner is hot or not, a group of plastic surgeons will check if restaurant guests make the cut. The free meal is a marketing promotion for the doctors who seek patients that need a nip and tuck.

Before customers start biting into their meals, they have to pass through a beauty identification site where their pictures are taken and evaluated. They are measured by the looks of their eyes, noses, mouths and faces. A prominent forehead is an advantage, the surgeons said.

As more people line up for the deal, China's netizens weigh in on the yardstick of beauty.

A user on China's social media network, Weibo, asked if the ugly have to pay twice as much, while another user quipped that she may get a percent off her food bill with her face.

The restaurant's banner in front, "FREE MEAL FOR GOODLOOKING," hangs prominently in screaming pink letters to attract more people to come in.

Zhengzhou city authorities are not at all happy with the banner, accusing restaurant owners of tarnishing the city's reputation. They said the restaurant was not allowed to put up the sign.

Security personnel and building workers went to the restaurant to take down the sign, the China News Service said. With or without the sign, the restaurant manager pledged free meals would continue for the beautiful.

The manager promised to be more prudent in making ads, but ruled out stopping the free-meal-for-beautiful promotion.
