The march, which will be happening today will commemorate King's instrumental civil rights leadership as well as his 1965 involvement in the Selma voting rights protest.

Alabama Mayor, George Evans released a statement about the event saying "I am honored that the cast of Selma and Paramount Pictures has once again put Selma in the nation's forefront for the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend." Lone black member of the Alabama Congressional delegation, Terri Sewell will be moderating a panel discussion at Selma High School.

'Selma' centers around the history-making demonstration led by King in 1965 and also focuses on the other men and women who were instrumental in the demonstrations, the real life event was televised live and was dubbed as 'Bloody Sunday' after the demonstrators were ambushed by Alabama State Troopers and beaten with clubs and tear gas when they reached the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

Paramount also announced that they will be holding two free screenings of the film on Monday in celebration of the King Holiday, no word if the cast will be present during the screenings.

Selma recently won the Best Song award at the 2015 Golden Globes for the song "Glory" which was written by singers John Legend and Common, who also performed the song in the film.
