Amazon, which already conquered the online retail world, is now planning to conquer the silver screen.

Amazon big boss Jeff Bezos is planning to enter in the movie-making business with the aim of becoming one of Hollywood's biggest Hollywood players.

The Seattle-based e-commerce firm released a statement Monday which revealed its plans to roll out at least a dozen feature-length films a year which would be slated for theatrical release.

Production will commence later this year, with plans as well for making the movies available for streaming via the company's video service arm around one to two months after the theatrical release. Traditionally, movies are available for online streaming around three months after they are released on theatres.

The e-commerce giant took Hollywood by storm after it announced that it has already contracted Woody Allen to create a TV series following the e-commerce giant's Transparent's win at the Golden Globes.

Amazon has already tapped indie film producer Ted Hope to take charge of the production. Hope's screen credits include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Eat Drink Man Woman, and Safe.

Amzon's film-making efforts will receive a budget ranging from US$5 million to US$25 million, a pittance compared to typical blockbusters that usually bleed up to US$100 million.

Bezos' plans is expected to worsen his already overwrought relationship with Wall Street, thanks to the company's heavy spending, which incurred hefty losses in recent quarters.
