T-Mobile's John Legere Responds to Claim Un-Carrier Is Unsustainable

T-Mobile USA CEO John Legere has responded to comments on his "Un-Carrier" model being unsustainable, claiming “Its total bullshit."

German state-owned telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom revealed earlier this week that its T-Mobile USA unit was still in the dumps when it comes to profit. CEO Timotheus Höttges claimed the "Un-Carrier" approach of deep discounts was "unsustainable," if T-Mobile keeps investing $4 billion to $5 billion per year on spectrum.

However, T-Mobile USA CEO John Legere had a rather blunt response to Höttges' claim Un-Carrier wasn't sustainable, saying "It's total bullshit."

The response was a reply on Twitter, and Legere may not have known it was his own boss Höttges who made the remarks. Legere spoke on the topic a bit earlier on Twitter, saying:

"What you need to know: 1. Media is looking for headlines. 2. Tim and I know what T-Mobile USA needs 3. Look at our Q4 numbers." Legere also attacked Gizmodo for its article on T-Mobile USA being unsustainable, claiming it was an investor comment.

T-Mobile USA has been mentioned before by Deutsche Telekom as an entity they would like to get rid of, in 2014 there were reports T-Mobile would be bought by Sprint, but the deal fell through.

In 2014, T-Mobile added over 8 million new subscribers, more than Verizon and Sprint. AT&T were the only company to compete heavily with T-Mobile throughout the year, almost mimicking the Un-Carrier announcements with its own.

There are reports floating about that Google is looking to acquire a wireless carrier, and T-Mobile would be the perfect option since it sells cheap to customers, is available almost nationwide and has a fiery attitude (thanks to Legere) to bring down the other carriers.
