Luke Grimes Leaves 'True Blood', Refuses to Play Gay Character

In a move which left 'True Blood' fans in shock, up-and-coming actor Luke Grimes decided to exit the popular show prior to the beginning of Season 7, causing producers to recast the actor's role in the series.

The 30-year-old actor's decision to leave 'True Blood' was said to be because of "creative decision of the character," and some even speculated that a difficult shooting schedule was the main cause after the actor was cast in the much-anticipated film '50 Shades of Grey'.

However, a source close to the show recently came forward to confirm that Grimes had instead backed out of the role due to some discomfort with the script for Season 7.

In the recent season, James, the character which Grimes played, is developing a budding romance with Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) and apparently the actor felt uncomfortable playing a gay character.

According to the source, Grimes raised objections to the first few scripts he received for Season 7 and told producers that he would only continue to play the role of James if the attraction was solely on Lafayette's side and not mutual. He also put his foot down stating that he was not willing to do any same-sex kissing or sex scenes.

Writers were unwilling to change the script on his behalf, causing Grimes to walk away. The character of James has been recast and will now be played by actor Nathan Parsons from the TV series 'Bunheads'.

Grimes's publicist, Craig Schneider, maintains that the actor's exit from the show was a matter of difficult scheduling and due to Grimes decision to pursue other opportunities.

HBO, on the other hand, refuses to take back their statement regarding Grimes' discomfort with gay scenes in 'True Blood'.

Grimes will be playing the role of Elliot Grey in the upcoming '50 Shades of Grey' film.
