Bill Gates hosted his third AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit earlier today and on the subject of life-extending and immortality research, Gates give a rather distasteful view of the whole subject.

"It seems pretty egocentric while we still have malaria and TB for rich people to fund things so they can live longer. It would be nice to live longer though I admit," he said.

Gates has invested resources to eradicate diseases through vaccinations, alongside promoting clean water, energy and food solutions to people in Africa and Asia.

He's also been critical of internet solutions for the poorest in the world, claiming investment in medicine is what Africa needs, not Facebook and Google Search.

The view has been contested by many in Silicon Valley who believe internet advances in poor countries can lead to evolution in economy and health.

Google's health subsidiary Calico is currently working on life-expansion and immortality. On the subject of Google's Calico venture, CEO Larry Page has already shown he's more invested in corporate solutions to huge problems-like space travel and sustainable energy than charity drives.

It's not the first time Gates' large investments in health and wellbeing have put him on a collision course with the tech community, which considers research in all areas better than investment into one specific disease.

Gates recently announced new funding to end polio and TB, two diseases that have harmed millions across the globe, but are close to complete eradication.
