Famous American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson will now transcend his popular radio podcast show, StarTalk, and take it to television. The show will begin airing on the National Geographic Channel in April.

The Hayden Planetarium director of the American Museum of Natural History in New York revealed the excitement felt by fans and science enthusiasts for show that is taking the internet by storm. The show could even replace and take over late night TV, said the New York Times.

StarTalk's producer and also a NASA astrobiologist, Helen Matsos, describes the show as The Daily Show meets Car Talk and Cosmos.

Tyson reveals there are a lot of TV shows and channels for people who are aware they like science. This particular show, however, is for people who don't yet know they like science.

He also believes films such as Interstellar, The Theory of Everything and The Imitation Game have given the public a new way of looking at science and a renewed interest in it.

In the past, scientists were often portrayed as mad or crazy psychopaths who endanger human civilization. New films such as Christopher Nolan's, Interstellar, depict film stars who save the world and impart global messages on issues such as climate change.

In one taping of StarTalk, Tyson talks about black holes as mysterious powerful forces beyond comprehension and so powerful even light can't escape their intense power. This conversation with guests, author Janna Levin from Barnard College and comedian Eugene Mirman, was combined with clips from a Nolan interview about Interstellar.

In this movie, a astronauts use a wormhole to travel to another galaxy to find a new planet for humans fleeing from a dying Earth.

Tyson's last project was the reboot of highly acclaimed show Cosmos originally hosted by the late astronomer and astrophysicist Carl Sagan. In the new StarTalk show, however, Tyson will be more unscripted and casual when it comes to explaining astrophysical and science terms and concepts.
