TOKYO: Nikon Corporation recently released its new D810, a Nikon FX-format digital SLR camera where photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, can produce high-resolution, high-quality photos.

A successor to the single-height, full-frame pro dSLRs such as the Nikon D800 series, it boasts a new Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor equipped with an optical low-pass filter. A too sharp or crisp photo can now be softened, lessening wave like patterns that creates a moire effect. Even with the aid of this particular filter, this softened effect will not affect the quality of a high-resolution 36.3 megapixel image.

Also equipped with the fastest EXPEED 4 image processor, the D810 has a 30 percent increase in overall performance and a longer battery life. Apart from an impressive pixel count of 36.3 million that results in sharper and high quality image, it also has a standard ISO range of 64 to 12,800. Although its light sensitivity range begins at 64, it can also go down to 32 where the user can tone down extreme brightness and adjust it to a 51,200 range, both for still and video shooting. This wide light sensitivity range can make the darkest photos appear brighter and the brightest ones more balanced.

The D810 can also shoot five frames per second in full resolution minimizing any hint of noise or graininess. When it comes especially to action or sport shots, the image will still be as prisitine and sharp without that grainy, blurry image quality. With the aid of its AF technology, as the user selects a single focus point, the D810 intuitively activates four other focus points--one above, below and one for each side that ultimately results in quick and smoother focusing. Focusing on moving subjects can be done faster without any unnecessary motion blur.

The D810 will be available in July and will be priced around US$3,300 in the US. Nikon is also offering two specialty kits, the D810 Filmmaker's Kit and the D810 Animator's Kit, prices to be announced.
