There are at least three people who just became richer by several hundred million dollars.

They are the lucky holders of the ticket bearing the numbers 11, 13, 25, 39, 54 and Powerball 19 that were picked in the Wednesday draw of Powerball lotto.

Fox reports that the owners of the tickets are from Texas, North Carolina and Puerto Rico who will share the US$564.1 million jackpot.

The Puerto Rican ticketholder makes history as the first jackpot winner sold outside continental United States, said Sue Dooley, senior drawing manager of the Multi-State Lottery Association.

It could also be considered some sort of beginner's luck since Puerto Rico joined Powerball less than a year ago.

The Wednesday jackpot is the third-largest in Powerball's history, but the fifth-biggest in the U.S.

The record-holder is the US$656 million jackpot in the March 2012 draw of the Mega Millions game shared by three lucky winners from Kansas, Illinois and Maryland.

If the winners would opt to get the lump sum, each of them would receive a whopping one-third share of the US$381,138,450.16 jackpot before taxes.

Although the jackpot begins at US$40 million, because of the jackpot drought the past few months, it grew to almost 10 times that amount both for Powerball and Mega Millions.

In February 2014, the Powerball jackpot hit US$425.3 million, while the next month, the Mega Millions jackpot reached US$414 million.

Lottery officials estimate that the odds of winning the jackpot of Powerball is 1 in 175 million, which is close to nil chances of winning.

But the real zero chances of winning belong to those who don't bet, said Tawsha Anderson of the lottery association, reports Chicago Tribune.
