An overpass collapsed in the World Cup host city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil on Thursday resulting in two dead and at least 19 injured, reports state.

The overpass, which was under construction, crashed on traffic below, crushing at least four vehicles.

One of the vehicles underneath the overpass was a municipal bus and bus driver, Hanna Cristina dos Santos, was listed as one of those who died. The woman's five-year-old child was also in the bus but was transported to a hospital in good condition.

A spokeswoman for the Minas Gerais state health department numbered those injured at 19 while the mayor's office announced the toll to be as high as 22.

A fire department spokesman also stated that at least one person was still trapped in a vehicle, however, authorities believe it is likely that the victim has not survived the incident.

The overpass was part of a project to speed up traffic during the World Cup and was meant to be finished by the time the FIFA event took over Brazil. Delays and failures to complete preparations for the World Cup has been an ongoing issue for Brazil and has raised eyebrows both locally and abroad.

This isn't the only example of unfinished work related to the World Cup. Some stadiums were reportedly finished just weeks before the inauguration of the event, while cities around the country were unable to finish planned access ramps, rail systems, airport expansions, and various other projects.

The rush to finish projects has also caused some to question their safety. Fans sitting in the upper decks at the new Arena Corinthians reported that they could feel the seats swaying beneath them and a wobbly staircase at Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro caused others to worry about how safe the stadium is overall.

So far, Belo Horizonte has hosted five soccer matches and is slotted for a sixth on Tuesday.
