Get Ready for the Black Super Moon on Wednesday Night

The Moon

(Photo : Reuters) It will have its own Moon soon.

This Wednesday night, a supermoon is about to reveal itself. It will be invisible because it's going to be a new moon.

The new moon is the first phase of the moon as it orbits closest to the sun as seen from Earth. It can't be seen except during a solar eclipse.

This means the moon is at its closest proximity to Earth than at any other time. This makes it appear 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter among all the other full moons.

Scientists classify this event as a perigee moon. During perigee, the moon is 12,000 miles closer to Earth. Usually, the moon is at a distance of 238,000 miles from the planet but since its orbit is elliptical, the distance differs throughout the year.

The moon's phases are not in sync with the date of the perigee but it's still possible for a full moon to occur. This is where a supermoon manifests.

Viewers won't be able to see Wednesday's unusual supermoon since the sun's ultra bright light will conceal it in the day time.

This black moon is a new moon version of a blue moon, meaning its extra full and has nothing to do with its shade or color.

Other definitions of a black super moon say this can only occur in February as the lunar synodic period from phase to phase is 29.5 days long. The last time this occurred was in 2014 and the next time it will occur again will be in 2018.

The black super moon only occurs as a second new moon in a month with two. This means this can happen during any month apart from February. It's also the third new moon in an astronomical season with four new moons.

The black moon's gravitational forces can also be felt through intensifying ocean currents and stronger tides. In the U.S., these powerful tides is an event called King Tide.

The next black super moon will occur in October 30, 2016 and the next blue moon or super moon is expected this July 31.
