Police arrested rapper and television host Vanilla Ice in Florida on late Wednesday.

Authorities took into custody the artist, whose legal name is Robert VanWinkle, who could be charged with grand theft and burglary residence.

Chief Sean Scheller at the Lantana Police Department said investigators are currently working with VanWinkle who will face charges when he is taken down for questioning at the county jail.

In December last year, the police looked into a report of burglary at a house near a residence that the 1990's rapper has been working on. Authorities said the missing things in the house -- which included bicycles, a pool heater, furniture and other items -- were found at VanWinkle's property. They were then returned to the owner.

A representative for VanWinkle has yet to respond to calls and messages asking for comment.

VanWinkle, who is probably best known for his one hit wonder, "Ice Ice Baby," is hosting a home renovation show on the DIY Network, "The Vanilla Ice Project." It is not clear whether the property in question is affiliated with the show.

He had several run-ins with the law prior to the burglary-related arrest.

On April 10, 2008, VanWinkle was arrested in Palm Beach County for battery after supposedly hitting his wife. He was freed the following day after his wife said he had only pushed her.

In September 2007, he also appeared in a West Palm Beach court to be arraigned for driving without a current license. Several months before the court hearing, police had pulled over VanWinkle for driving beyond the speed limit, having illegally tinted car windows and ignoring restrictions on a busy vehicle lane.

In November 2004, his pet goat, Pancho and pet wallaroo, Bucky, escaped from his Port St. Lucie home. After roaming town streets for more than seven days, the animals were caught and returned to the rapper. Police fined him US$220 for expired pet tags and an undisclosed fine for the animals' escape.
