Lenovo Offers New Tool To Remove Superfish Adware

Lenovo has apologized for the pre-installation of Superfish adware, offering tools to remove it.

Lenovo has backtracked on previous statements regarding adware service Superfish and now offers a simple way to remove it from infected computers.

The news was released last week that Superfish was giving internet searches to third parties, potentially stealing bank information from users and selling it to untrustworthy sources.

The original statement from Lenovo claimed a "customer poll" showed most people wanted Superfish installed. This didn't correspond with user complaints over the past few days showing users clearly unhappy with the adware.

Lenovo has also disabled Superfish on all new computers, making sure no new users are affected by the adware. It's clear Lenovo is in full retreat regarding the service.

Adware has not been a prominent issue on computers for quite some time, but Lenovo's pre-installation of the service is quite worrisome, especially since Superfish seems to steal screenshots of websites.

Lenovo's lackluster response is making customers unhappy and shows the company seemingly not bothered by installing services that could scam users. HP poked some fun at Lenovo on Twitter, claiming the only "Superfish" its own users know is sushi.

Hopefully, this will make the idea of adding bloatware on computers even more hated and push manufacturers to remove all unused programs from computers.
