A pelican held traffic on the 90 Freeway in California for about one hour on Saturday afternoon.

The bird flew on the ramp at around half past 1 p.m. and refused to leave, prompting California Highway Patrol officers to block two lanes and issue a SigAlert, reports CBS.

Although the stubborn avian had been cornered, after 30 minutes it was still on the ramp, although the pelican eventually left the ramp, and traffic resumed by 2:15 p.m.

In Philadelphia, it was heavy snowfall that was the headache of motorists as it caused a big jump in vehicular accidents, delays in mass transit systems and cancellation of flights.

For several hours, the Federal Aviation Administration stopped all planes from taking off at the Philadelphia airport because of poor visibility and high winds brought by the snow storm, according to Philly.com.

The icy roads caused seven accidents on Saturday afternoon, which were handled by troopers from Chester County at their Avondale barracks. They also opened another barracks at Media, while the troopers reduced speed limit to 45 mph on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

At the southern part of New Jersey, state police reduced speed limit to 35 mph on state road due to spinouts that caused a major backup at the intersection of Routes 42 and 55. Although South Jersey had less snow compared to Pennsylvania, nevertheless, its roads had turned to rinks.

Meanwhile, SEPTA detoured several bus routes, while riders of the Regional Rail system were delayed up to 30 minutes because of the weather.

The freezing weather caused the break in the water-main on Port Richmond, forcing residents to leave their homes, reports the Philadelphia Water Department.

Philadelphia is expected to get some relief on Sunday as the temperatures are forecast to reach the mid-40s and skies are anticipated to be clear, but by Monday, it's back to the freezer again for residents.
