(Photo : Microsoft Place) Microsoft has launched a People Sense for finding friends.

Microsoft has launched a new service, "People Sense", that's  similar to Find My Friends on iOS.

The new service allows Windows Phone users to share recent locations with friends and family. It and can also set a real-time locations that update on the fly.

Bing Maps will power the service, helped along by Nokia's HERE mapping service. Microsoft is planning to integrate other navigation and communication services to People Sense, allowing users to message friends inside the app.

Users will be able to directly change how many people can see the current location alongside removing the location altogether.

People Sense might be the replacement for Microsoft's Rooms service, which Microsoft was planning to kill off in March. The service allowed users to chat and share location in a private virtual room with friends and family.

People Sense should launch on Windows Phone and Windows 10 sometime in the next few months, perhaps with the rollout of universal apps for all platforms.

It's not clear how popular Find My Friends is on iOS, and if Microsoft isn't making another bad investment for the sake of offering more services on Windows Phone.

Sharing information is already considered a little bit odd what with recent surveillance scares, and most people seem to not want their smartphone publishing their every step to friends and family.
