Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants continue to sow terror as it abducted over 150 Christians in northeastern Syria on Tuesday.

A Syrian Christian group had verified at least 150 people including women and the elderly, had been kidnapped by the ISIS from Christian villages in Hassakeh Province. The villages, home to ancient Christian minority, are located near the Assyrian town of Tel Tamr.

Earlier reports by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reveal at least 90 people were kidnapped.

Relatives of the missing Christians worry about their loved ones, who remain unreachable at this time.

"Have they been slaughtered? Are they still alive? We're searching for any news," said an Assyrian Christian woman originally from Hassakeh and now lives in Beirut as she tries to locate her parents, brother and his wife and their children.

In its Facebook page, The Assyrian Network for Human Rights in Syria said ISIS fighters could have possibly brought the captives to Umm al-Masamir Village on Mount Abdulaziz, south of Tel Tamr and used them as human shields against Kurdish offensives.

Syrian Kurdish rebels launched two US and Iraqi-backed major offensives against the ISIS on Sunday, killing at least 14 ISIS fighters.

"Islamic State are losing in several areas so they want to wage an attack on a new area," said retired Jordanian general Fayez Dwiri.

The ISIS, however, did not confirm the abductions, but photos posted online by its supporters suggested that the militants are now at Tel Tamr.

Many Christians have fled Syria during the 4-year-long conflict which had killed more than 200,000 people.
