Police Arrest 3 California Men in ‘Sex Slave’ Case

(Photo : The Press Democrat) Two kidnapping suspects are being led away in handcuffs from a home at 3555 Stony Point Road in Santa Rosa on February 25, 2015.

Three men were arrested in Santa Rosa, California for offenses related to the kidnapping and sexual abuse of a woman for nearly two months, police said.

The Sheriff's Office in Sonoma County suspected Jose Angel Barajas-Mireles, 34, as the mastermind of the abduction of a 22-year-old woman who was kept in a house in Santa Rosa.

The sheriff said Guillermo Crestino Avina and Jaime Gomez Cisneros were arrested for watching the victim and keeping her from leaving the Santa Rosa house.

They were each charged with being an accessory and false imprisonment.

Initially, investigators said the victim had been held against her will for three weeks.

She managed to walk to freedom last week after spotting an open door. She had gone to police for help.

Detectives said Barajas-Mireles is also responsible for most of the physical assaults and the sexual abuse.

The suspect has been charged with aggravated rape, sodomy and aggravated oral copulation. A court set his bail at $6 million dollars.

The sheriff's office seized the three suspects when they went to the law enforcers' office to take back property that was taken during the case investigation, authorities said.

The victim earlier told police she had been taken captive at gunpoint from the community where she lived, but not one of the suspects were charged with firearms violations or kidnapping.

Sonoma police officials said the victim may have been overwhelmed with a debilitating sense of fear and of retaliation, coupled with the traumatic assault that she had gone through, when she initially told law enforcers that she was taken captive at gunpoint.
