George Clooney: The Daily Mail Lied

Gravity star George Clooney slammed the Daily Mail UK for 'fabricating' a story about his future mother-in-law's opinion of the actor and her daughter's engagement, USA Today reported on Thursday.

In the extraordinary instance, Clooney told the news agency that none of the Daily Mail's report was true including the statement about Baria Alamuddin, his future mother-in-law being 'unimpressed' with her daughter's decision to marry the actor.

Previous report from the Daily Mail stated that an unnamed 'Lebanese family friend' of the Alamuddins shared how Baria questioned her daughter's choice allegedly saying that she "should marry within strict Lebanese religious sect."

In the statement, Clooney denied that his fiancée's mother told 'half of Beirut' this and clarified that she cannot have this opinion basing on an 'orthodox Lebanese Druze upbringing' stating that she is not even a Druze.

He also condemned the tabloid's jokes about traditions in the sect where samples were reported about cases ending with the 'death of the bride', stressing the last four words.

"If they fabricate stories of Amal being pregnant, or the marriage is on the set of Downton Abbey, or that I'm running for office, or any number of idiotic stories that they sit at their computers and invent, I don't care," Clooney stated emphasizing that the 'lie' the tabloid published may provoke violent reactions especially from the religious sect.

On the other hand, the Daily Mail has already removed the particular article in spite of their denial of publishing fabricated story explaining that it was 'supplied in good faith by a reputable and trusted freelance journalist.'

The tabloid, however, expressed their regret and acceptance of Clooney's claim that the story was untrue and later apologized to him, his fiancée Amal and her mother for 'any distress' caused by the issue.
