(Photo : Reuters) Samsung has surpassed 20 million pre-orders according to early figures.

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge at Mobile World Congress earlier today, kicking-off 2015 with two of the biggest announcements.

The two devices come with a refined design, taking a few cues from the iPhone 6. Both feature a 5.1-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440) display, but the S6 Edge has a dual-edge display.

Internally, the Galaxy S6 is running the new 14-nanometer Exynos octa-core processor, 3 GB of DDR4 RAM and 32, 64 or 128 GB of internal storage. For the first time ever, Samsung will not allow users to open the back to remove the battery and SIM.

The design is a big change on the Galaxy S6. It now features a dual-glass design with metal frame and looks stunning. Samsung has really stepped it up without going minimalist as to not be relevant in the smartphone design discussion.

This is part of Samsung's revamp of its mobile devices after a poor showing in 2014 leading many to believe it was Samsung's time -- like BlackBerry and Nokia before it -- to drop down from the top spot.

Unlike BlackBerry and Nokia, however, Samsung appears to be fighting the trend. The Galaxy S6 sports wireless charging with what the company calls "best-in-class" charging speeds, taking only 10 minutes to charge four hours of battery.

The rear camera will remain 16 MP but now features optical image stabilization and an f/1.9 aperture. Samsung compared a few photos taken by the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus to the Galaxy S6, with noticeable improvements, but we'll have to take our own look before giving any solid praise.

Software also played a big part at the event. Samsung announced it had slimmed down the UX to a few pre-installed apps, including Microsoft's Skype, OneNote and OneDrive. TouchWiz has been refined to look more like Android Lollipop.

Samsung Pay was announced at the event and the South Korean company claimed 90 percent of credit readers support the service at launch, thanks to the acquisition of LoopPay for $200 million a few weeks prior.

The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will launch on April 10 in 20 countries, with a global launch coming soon after. Prices were not disclosed.
