AT&T to Use Cisco’s Virtual Mobile Network for its Connected Car Services

Multinational networking company Cisco Systems, Inc. recently announced AT&T Inc.'s plan to its virtual mobile networking technology solution to support connected car users.

Cisco made the announcement at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in Barcelona, Spain.

"Our collaboration with AT&T to implement virtual mobile network technology for connected cars marks a significant milestone for innovation in the connected car industry." said Kelly Ahuja, Cisco's senior vice president of service provider business products and solutions.

"We are transforming mobile architecture and delivering a powerful new network that marries virtual and physical resources. Virtualization is a means to an end." Ahuja added.

"When coupled with physical technology, it affords new economies of scale that allow service providers like AT&T to innovate faster and deliver a better in-car experience."

"With this new software-driven mobile Internet solution incorporated in to our offerings, we can help to provide auto makers with advanced connected car services that give consumers more real-time communications services that positively impact the driving experience." said Cameron Coursey, AT&T's vice president of product development and operations.

The networking giant said 11.5 billion mobile devices will be online over the next five years.

According to a report, AT&T also plans to integrate its home automation platform with its connected car offering, AT&T Drive.

With the integration, users will now be able to manipulate their security functions such as door locks, their thermostat and garage doors directly from the user panel.
