With the far from impressive performance the Los Angeles Lakers have given this season, the San Antonio Spurs have just become the best franchise team in National Basketball Association (NBA) history.

While the term "best" is subjective and many fans may object, the fact is that numbers do not lie.

The Spurs have become the best franchise in history because of their wins and losses. They now have the highest winning percentage for any franchise in NBA history.

Dan McCarney from the San Antonio Express News said that the Spurs are mere decimal points ahead of the Lakers, passing them a couple of weeks ago. He said that the Spurs passed the Lakers quietly, being boosted by their 15 straight 50 win seasons in the NBA.

This streak of the Spurs --- an NBA record --- is in jeopardy this season, as the team would have to win 14 of their remaining 23 games to keep the streak alive for another year.

The Spurs currently have a 61 percent winning rate per season, which roughly equates to winning two out of every three games.

While championships are the goal of every NBA player, and the Spurs are certainly no stranger to holding up trophies, only one team in the league can have the best winning percentage at any given time.

The distinction only serves to uplift the status of the Spurs as one of the elite teams in the NBA right now and throughout history.

The record only takes into account team's NBA records though. The Spurs started playing in the ABA and only joined the NBA in the 1976-77 season.

As of last Monday, the Spurs have amassed a 1389-672 record.

Apart from the Spurs and the Lakers, the Boston Celtics, the Phoenix Suns, and the Seattle Supersonics or Oklahoma City Thunder are part of the top five in terms of winning percentages.
