Mark Zuckerberg Has "One Test" For Potential Employees

Mark Zuckerberg apparently has one prerequisite for hiring someone for a managerial position, a test to see if Zuckerberg would work for him.

Speaking at Mobile World Congress earlier this week and at a Barcelona town-hall meeting, Zuckerberg said if a manager could show his talents directly to him, he would look to hire.

Zuckerberg has already tried this test on several key executives, including Sheryl Sandberg, the chief operational officer for Facebook. Sandberg is responsible for most of the day-to-day management of the company, and Zuckerberg claims she mentors him when it comes to business and other leadership duties.

This is an uncommon approach for a leader to have, as they can be quite picky when it comes to applications. Zuckerberg claims this test helps weed out some of the less enthusiastic applicants, one reason for the low count of employees at the social network in comparison to Google, Microsoft and Apple.

Facebook is known for hiring some of the most talented engineers in the world, but when it comes to public faces, the social network has Zuckerberg and Sandberg as its main operators.

Compared to Google where Sundar Pichai, Matias Duarte, Eric Schmidt and other executives seem to shroud over CEO Larry Page, and Apple where Tim Cook allows other executives to share the limelight, Facebook has a rather front-loaded approach to public speaking.

Internally, Zuckerberg is known for thinking about the big picture and how the social network can reach even more people. He even set-up a new non-profit company, Internet.org, to focus on bringing internet to the poorest countries in the world through partnerships with local telecom providers.
