(Photo : Reuters) It looks like some internet services are still trying to get an upper-hand after the FCC announced new rules.

HBO announced its exclusive deal with Apple to launch the standalone service HBO Now but a statement from the TV network sheds light on another available platform:

HBO continues to be in discussions with its existing network of distributors and new digital partners to offer HBO NOW. At launch, HBO NOW will be available on iOS devices and on PCs.

The exclusivity deal with Apple is for three months but looks to be a blockade against Android more than anything else. HBO Now already has a sign-up page on the web, meaning anyone owning a computer can subscribe.

This could allow things like the Roku, Chromecast and Fire TV Stick all work with HBO Now, although it won't natively support these types of devices at launch. Users can still send the full-screen video to the TV on the Chromecast but it may suffer from delay.

HBO was reportedly in talks with Google, Cox Communications, Cablevision and other internet and technology companies about a partnership, but Apple swooped in and offered big money to keep it away from Android.

This might work out well for Apple in the short-term with the drop in price for Apple TV to $69. It's clear the company wants people watching HBO Now on the set-top box.

Apple might also be working on its own large scale internet TV service and partnered with Disney and other cable networks to make it happen. It would work similar to Sling TV but will apparently feature an al-a-carte system for choosing the channels.

HBO Now will launch a week before the premiere of Game of Thrones on April 12. It will cost $14.99 per month, but the first month is free if you subscribe in April.
