The San Francisco 49ers add some offensive firepower to their team with the addition of running back Reggie Bush.

Bush - a San Diego native - returns to California since his college years where he played for the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans football program.

ESPN National Football League (NFL) Insider Adam Schefter reported last Saturday that Bush and the 49ers reached an agreement. Previously with the Detroit Lions, Bush was released last February in order to save US $1.7 million in salary cap space.

In 2013, the 30-year old Bush signed a four-year deal with the Lions. In his first season, he earned more than 1,000 rushing yards.

However, the following season saw tragedy strike as injuries kept Bush from playing. The injury came in the fifth week against the Buffalo Bills. The injury never completely healed.

Throughout the 2014 season, he only played 11 games with only 76 carriers for 297 yards and two touchdowns. While Bush's heart shone through and he kept trying to play again, injuries kept finding him.

Fortunately for Bush, the 49ers decided to take a gamble on Bush's nagging injuries and saw some use for his offensive potentials.

Bush entered the NFL in the 2006 draft where he was the number two draft pick of the New Orleans Saints.

Even though Bush had a productive number of years with the Saints - the times when he was wealthy - and also winning the Super Bowl too, he never fully lived up to the expectations after a great career with the Trojans.

Playing five seasons with the Saints, he scored 33 touchdowns in 60 games.

In 2011, he moved to the Miami Dolphins where he rushed for a total of 2,072 yards and scoring 15 touchdowns over two seasons.

Apart from Bush, the 49ers also signed cornerback Shareece Wright to a one-year deal.
