Scientists and astronomers are driven to explore and uncover the secrets of the Universe despite it being too vast for human minds to comprehend.

If this makes some feel insignificant, it shouldn't and famous astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson imparts wisdom he acquired over the course of his career. He said the Universe actually makes him feel larger than life.

Knowledge is pivotal in living a prosperous and meaningful life, said deGrasse Tyson.

After publishing almost a dozen books and having a hit TV series, Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, and directing the Hayden Planetarium found in New York, deGrasse Tyson still finds the time to learn something new every day, as he said to Charlie Rose of 60 Minutes.

Here are some poignant yet fundamentally essential life lessons he says drive him to explore and inspires him constantly.

One of his mantras in life is to try and lessen the suffering of others in whatever way on a daily basis. It's a mission he accomplished as a science educator and as host of the popular podcast, StarTalk Radio, and Cosmos. In both programs, deGrasse Tyson strives to illuminate listeners about the mysteries of the universe.

He says that if you understand your connection to the Universe, meaning you accept the fact we're all made from the same material as the 10 billion stars in our galaxy, then knowledge can empower you and provide you with a sense of relevance about this connection.

DeGrasse Tyson notes this feeling of relevance is what we look for in life as a species.

Apart from this, he told Rose that he tries to learn something new every day that he previously didn't know the day before. And there are so many things to learn in this Universe.

Experts also agree with deGrasse Tyson since learning something new every day can make anyone smarter overall, and can prevent faster brain aging.

Many studies confirm those that regularly feel awe and wonder about their lives generally become less stressed and more satisfied with their quality of life.

On a final note, deGrasse Tyson wants to lead a life following the words of Horace Mann, a 19th century politician and educator, who said be ashamed to die until you have scored some victory for humanity.

In his own version, the astrophysicist reveals that when you have the power to influence, the goal is to make the world a slightly better place for others.
